MAIL MANAGER +PLUS+ v2.02
-------------------------
Welcome to our shareware effort, Mail Manager +Plus+! This program
has many new features not available in the "free" Mail Manager, and
represents our continuing effort to add some of the new features to
the door that everyone has been asking for. Unfortunately, new
features means added complexity. We've attempted to make everything
as painless and straightforward as possible, but...
Mail Manager +Plus+ represents some of the most extensive changes
ever in the entire Mail Manager series, and will require a bit of
reading on your part in order to make use of everything.
MAINTENANCE RELEASES:
*************************************************************************
* Due to the extensive amount of changes in Mail Manager +Plus+, we *
* have discovered a couple of early problems that were not caught in *
* the initial beta testing phases. Sorry about that. *
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
* v2.02 - Fixes a bug that was present in v2.00 and v2.01 in the *
* updating of high message numbers after a download. Bug *
* appeared only if there were greater than 255 conferences *
* configured, and mail was extracted from conference numbers *
* greater than 255. The only executables that have changed *
* since v2.01 are MAILMGR.EXE and MAILCFG.EXE. Main *
* documentation has not changed (except for version # and *
* minor wording changes) since v2.01. *
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
* v2.01 - A last-minute update to the original v2.00 pre-release. *
* Very few folks should have received a copy of the original *
* version 2.00. v2.01 was the first version available from *
* our home board, and fixed problems with the CFG2TXT and *
* TXT2CFG utilties, as well as improved FIDO *.MSG handling. *
*-----------------------------------------------------------------------*
* v2.00 - Initial pre-release of Mail Manager +Plus+. This archive *
* was never available for download from our home port, but *
* 13 copies were indeed sent out. *
*************************************************************************
If you installed either 2.00 or 2.01, you can simply drop in the new
executables and run. No file conversion is necessary. All files
that are NOT marked below have not changed since the release of 2.00.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
202-EXE.ZIP contains all executables (* = changed since v2.00)
(x = changed since v2.01):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MAILCFG.EXE x 71392 - Configuration program.
MAILMGR.EXE x 236520 - Mail Manager +Plus+ itself.
MAILFIX.EXE 19964 - Alternate purge/repair utility for *M.DEF's.
CFG2TXT.EXE * 18694 - Convert binary config file to text format.
TXT2CFG.EXE * 15756 - Convert text config file to MMGR binary format.
UPDATE.EXE 8880 - Update Mail Manager v1.30 to 1.34 config file to
Mail Manager +Plus+ format.
UPDATUSR.EXE 7470 - Update MAILMGR.USR to the new format of Mail

(x = changed since v2.01):

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
UPGRADING FROM MAIL MANAGER V1.3x:
Although it is relatively painless to upgrade from v1.3x of Mail
Manager, please be aware that both the configuration file and
user file (MAILMGR.CFG and MAILMGR.USR) have changed in format,
and the new MAILCFG program will report that your old configuration
file is corrupt.
Run the supplied UPDATE.EXE against your existing configuration
file, then run the supplied UPDATUSR.EXE against your existing
MAILMGR.USR file. MAKE SURE YOU RUN THESE UTILITIES FROM YOUR
MAIL MANAGER DIRECTORY! After you've run these utilities once,
you can throw them away (UPDATE.EXE and UPDATUSR.EXE).
**********************************************
-->> * RUN UPDATUSR.EXE ONCE AND ONLY ONCE!!!!! * <<---
**********************************************
After that, run the new MAILCFG.EXE and carefully look for changes,
especially in the conference edit screen. You'll have to go into
the new manual if some of the options appear confusing.
If you are upgrading from a version lower than 1.30, your best bet is
to set up Mail Manager +Plus+ from scratch. The changes are simply
too extensive.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
IF YOU'RE SETTING UP MAIL MANAGER FOR THE FIRST TIME:
There is no such thing as a "QUICK INSTALL" for Mail Manager +Plus+,
although you can be up and running fairly easily by:
- Creating a \MAILMGR directory off of your root,
- De-compressing the archives 201-EXE.ZIP and 201-TXT.ZIP there,
- Run MAILCFG.EXE, and follow the prompts, then...
- Follow standard procedure for adding a new door to your system
(DOORS.DEF, menus, etc. etc.)
However, we do *NOT* recommend that you do it this way if you have
more than a handful of conferences, and plan to add or delete any
in the forseeable future. A little advance planning *NOW* can save
you a world of grief later, and there are many customizable text
files that you may want to change.
Mail Manager +Plus+ is a VERY involved door, with many capabilities,
and encompasses just about your entire RBBS-PC (and frontend mailer)
setup. There is no substitue for having a printed copy of MAILMGR.DOC
handy.
HISTORY.DOC lists all changes to the door since the release of the
v1.3x series of Mail Manager.
Best,
Chip Morrow & Doug Wilson
